Show WHY ALLISON QUIT THE SCHOOLS DID NOT DESIRE TO CAUSE BOARD DISCORD. Superintendent Will Devote Hl Time in Other Lines of Work After Long Public Service. Superintendent William Allison was interviewed today regarding his resignation resig-nation from the board of education of the public schools, but had little to say beyond the opinion that matters in local educational circles had reached a stage where he thought it better for himself a? well as for the general school system that he resign at this time. He stated that there had been no friction whatever, as vet, with the new board, but the possibility of future dissension dis-sension among the members of that body had decided him in taking the step which he had. "There is nothing," said he. "which can so demoralize a school system as dissension between those who constitute consti-tute its board of control. If differences arise between the superintendent and members of the educational board, the matters are always reflected in the staff of teachers who are bound to take sides in the matters under discussion. When teachers disagree or take part in discussions, pupils and parents Invariably In-variably Interest themselves to an extent, ex-tent, with the result that the whole system is liable to become disarranged disarrang-ed with petty strife and feeling. "I have risen about as high as I can In the educational realms of the state, outside of tho superintendency of the Salt Lake schools, and am content con-tent to step down at this time and relinquish re-linquish my position to another. "I have served as superintendent of the city schools for fourteen years, previous to which I was a school principal prin-cipal for two years. For eight years I hne been a member of the state school board and for the past two years have been a member of the National Na-tional Educational association. I have had Pome excellent offers in other lines of work of late and shall accept one of them In the near future. What it is, I cannot say at this time." |
