Show SAVED FROM DROWNING BY GOLF STICKS Chicago, Feb. 13. William Hough, assistant auditor of the Pullman company, com-pany, was saved from drowning In the Calumet Country Club lagoon yesterday yes-terday by several companions. With the aid of golf brassies they made a "human chain." Mr. Hough gTasped tbe brassle which was extended to him and was pulled from the icy water wat-er as he was about to sink. Mr. Hough and others were playing for the third hole when a topped tee thot by Mr. Hough, landed the ball in the center of the lagoon which was covered with a thin coat of ice. Believing Be-lieving the smooth surface was strong enough to bear his weighL Mr. Hough Etarted after the ball. Twenty feet from shore, however, the ice suddenly cracked, precipltat-I precipltat-I ing Mr. Hough into the icy water, I which at that point is thirty feet deep. His companions were hastening to his j aid when another warning crack""drove I them back again. Then It was that I one of them thought of the "human j chain." |
