Show Sheep Beasts of Burden. In' the northern part of India sheep are put to a use untbought of in European Eu-ropean or American countries. They are made to eerve as beasts of burden, bur-den, because they are more sure-footed than larger beasts, and the mountain moun-tain paths along the foothills of tho Himalayas are steep and difficult. The load for each sheep is from 16 to 20 pounds. The sheep are driven from the village to village, with, the wool still growing, and In each town tho farmer shears as much wool as he can sell' there and loads the shocp with the grain which he receives in exchange. ex-change. After his flock has ben sheared he turns It' homeward, each cheep having on -its back a small bag containing the purchased grain. |
