For the past three years it has occupied oc-cupied a conspicuous place In tho big reception room of the secretary of the navy and proved of great interest in-terest to visitors. A monster petition was the result of a. general protest of people In New England against the suggestion of Mr. Bonaparte, then secretary of thu navy, that tho old ship Constitution was not fit for further repair and ought to be destroyed.
