Show DISCUSSING SCHEDULE OF WAGES AMICABLE AGREEMENT 'SOUGHT TO AVOID GENERAL STRIKE. Committee From All Different Crafts at Ely Smelter In Conference With General Manager Lakeman. Ely, Nev., Jan. 19.--A committee composed of representatives from all the different crafts at tho smelter, was In conference with General Manager Man-ager Lakeman today discussing the question of wages and seeking somo smicable agreement by which a general gen-eral strike of men employed at the plant could be prevented Carpenters electricians, Ironworkers, pipe fitters and helpers were out today. The. lioiler makers, machinists and moulders mould-ers have given the company 24 hours' notice of their demands, which will expire at noon tomorrow. They expect to continue at work until that time at least. All operatives In the concentrator concen-trator are working and will await the results of the conference before taking further action. The number of men included In the crafts enumerated is between 300 and 400, and about the panic number of Greek and other foreigners for-eigners were out 'of work today. |
