Show PRESIDENT IS ACTING. Having labored for weeks to get the I coal operators and miners to agree to I a basis of understanding whereby the mines might bp reopened, and having found a part of the operators defiant and perverse, the president has expressed ex-pressed disappointment and has threatened to open the mines under government control. Doth sides to the conflict have shown the aame unyielding spirit and as a result the president's patience has been exhausted. Viewing coal as a national necessity, President Harding Hard-ing realizes the time has arrived when some determined course must be pursued, pur-sued, and so he has decided to take drastic action. It would be a national calamity to allow the country to go into the winter win-ter without some assurance of a coal supply. This is the time of year when I fome thought must bo given to the j winter demands Just ahead and our ! government is proceeding in the right direction in Ignoring both operator j and miner and making plans to work I the mines regardless of either side to the labor struggle |
