Show ATTORNEYS CASES BEFORE HIGH COURT SALT "LAKE, May 13. Arguments of the appeal of D. IT. Thomas and Ashby Snow, attorneys, from fines for contempt of the Third district court in connection with the "West Cache sugar case, were held before the supreme court of Utah yesterday. O. C. Beebe, who had refused to open a safety deposit box In a local ank in response to a court order served by W. E. Schoppc, chief deputy sheriff, sher-iff, has already paid a fine. It was alleged, that Mr. Bcebe acted on. the advice of the attorneys and that, speaking for Mr. Beebe, the attorneys at-torneys said they could not and would not open the box. . I. The argument yesterday centered largely on the point of whether the court had or bad not jurisdiction to lBaue such an order. This point was taken up by Mr. Thomas and by James Tngcbretscn, for the appellants. Frank E. Holman, appearing in the Capacity of a. "friend of the court," argued against this and also contend-1 contend-1 cd that, so far as the. court's action was concerned. It had not been taken hastily, but after extra consideration had been given to the case Justice , J E. Frlck. by his line of questioning i of Mr. llolman, laid especial emphasis em-phasis on the fact that attorneys arc sworn officers of the court. The garnishment proceedings, in which the Zloa'a bank Is garnishee, were also heard on appeal yesterday". In the morning the dispute of the ; heirs of . "William IT.
