Show PRICE MAN HAS CLOSE ESCAPE IN STORE FIRE PRICE, May 2S. O. T. Brooks proprietor pro-prietor of a furniture storo in this city narrowly escaped death while fighting the flames of a fire that broke out in the basement of the building yesterday morning. Observing smoke coming from the basement Mr. Brooks went below to ascertain the origin of the fire and If possible to extinguish the flames. When he arrived in the basement base-ment he found the plaqe filled with smoke and he had "to crawl on his hands and knees to find his way back to the. stairs which were burning when he reached them. iTc was badly, hut not fatally burned about the face and I hands. I Three oilier, men who entered the I basement with a hose to fight- the flames were also driven back by the flames and smoke and suffered slight bums. The building was almost totally total-ly destroyed, the loss being estimated at $10,000. The loss is protected by ?S,000 insurance. on |
