Principal opposition to tho resolution, resolu-tion, it was said, came from Senators Ransdell, Louisiana, Smith, Georgia, and Smith, South CarQlina.-Democrats, who argu.ed that the government should not interfere In tho matter and that an embargo might cause retaliatory retalia-tory tactics by foreign countries and Interfere with importation of sugar.
