The "poor little child" who has the misfortune to be born in a city j has just five times as good a j chance of reaching maturity as his country cousin, according to Dr. Thomas D. Wood of Teachers' Teach-ers' college, Nev.r York. j Speaking before a teachers' i conference in Belvidere, N. J., , yesterday, Dr. Wood cited fig- J ures based on a survey of 500,-000 500,-000 children to support his j contention. The figures showed country ! children to lead city children in teeth defects, defective tonsils, I adenoids, malnutrition and ! breathing defects. ' "Ignorance, inexercise and i lack of health supervision," were given by Dr. Wood as the principal causes of poor health j in the country. I |
