Judge T. 1). I Johnson imposed the fine and stated I that insomuch as Mr. Brooker was not i of the vicious type of propagandist, and as he had also given evidence of I being loyal to the United States in (several ways, he did not intend to im-' im-' pose a sentence of imprisonment. : Ho felt, however, that for such , statements as Mr. Broolcer was charged charg-ed with having made, there should be I some punishment large enough to prevent a repetition of the crime. United States District Attorney Evans of Salt Lake, recommended that merely a fine be placed and this be paid at a (imo stated by the court. Mr. Brooker asked "for and was granted, thirty days in which to pay the fine. As evidence of his loyalty and good faith, Mr. Brooker had with him this morning Liberty bonds of the two last issues and further stated that he had subscribed his utmost to the United War Workers fund, and to the Red, Cross. j |
