Show Give Your Child Foundation of Health I j NOT only must man "oarn his bread by the sweat of his brow" but, as a rule, he must win his health at the expense of some time aud a good deal of effort. Of course, there arc the blessed among us wbosc natural heritage Is health, but even they, exposed as tlicy must necessarily bc lo the strain smd stress of the times, must strive to keep It. The "Weak Spot Most of us, however, have a declden weakness somewhere in our make-up, and if wc would not, like Achilles, allow al-low the fatal spot to give us untold trouble and perhaps to bring us to an untimely end we will work with might and main to overcome that wcakucss and to get Into and to keep In nil around good condition. How well all of us know that aimless, Imppy-go-lucky type of person Avho considers con-siders his health as a sort of patchwork quilt Some simple, ailment attacks him and he immediately tries to cure it by a certain drug, but no sooner lias he succeeded in that direction than he Is beset by a second 111 which requires still another drug, which lie immediately imme-diately seizes upou, and he keeps trying try-ing one remedy after another. Medicinal curatives are, of course, all right in their place and are at times absolutely essential, but in attempting to patch up his health he often overlooks over-looks tbe very thing that would place It on a rock bottom basis and resorts merely to temporary expedients. One of tbe foremost doctors and physical directors of tbe day declares that it is quite possible for one to escape most of the physical ills and to keep on a high plane of efficiency, immune im-mune to disease and lead a happier, healthier life if one will only realize it and be willing to pay the price. Fresh air. rest and proper uouris'h-mcut uouris'h-mcut arc three factors In good health, but just as important as any of them Is that all too often neglected exercise. Intellectual and clever men and women use their brains. They seldom allow ihein to become idle and passive. If they did they would grow "rusty" hi no time at all. The expert typist uses her fingers. She could have acquired no speed had she been merely content with stuffing her head with theoretical knowledge. And the same practical point must be considered in regard to our bodies. If we would be healthy wc. must practise healthy things, and exercise is the chief means to this end. The organs and muscles aud tissues are all vital parts of the body, and they all need lo be strengthened and Invigorated. In-vigorated. True enough, there Is no more trite word in our language than "exercise," but that iu no way lessens its importance, impor-tance, and It Is a word of which every one should thoroughly understand the meaning. The Individual who neglects his health is in line for a break, but the average person waits until he .begins to feel 111 before he does anything about It If all of us would resolve to take time not only to "get well" but to "keep well" the national health would take :i decided turn for the better. Effort and Result. Train your child to take plenty of exercise. Even if his and your own time Is limited, a few simple "setting vip" movements gone through night and morning, using dumbbells, if possible, will do much to lay a firm foundation of gfcbd health that will mean much to him in years to come. Even if wc do use a few of our precious hours in "just exercise," jf we keep our bodies in healthy condition and render ourselves ji groat deal less susceptible to illness and epidemics we shall have proved the result worth many times tbe effort. |
