Show oo Medicos- Have i Right to Have j 1 Laws for Members LONDON. Oct. 15 Tho right of a ! voluntary and unofficial organization to lay down and enforce laws for members of tho profession who violate vio-late such rules, was denied by a British Bri-tish court today. The organization In question is tho British Medical Association. Asso-ciation. The Medical Association had proclaimed pro-claimed and enforced what It termed "ostracism" of several doctors who were conducting a sanitarium and who , were charged by tho Medical Associa- J tion with violating professional ethics eth-ics or the rules of the society. One of the. charges was hinged upon the amount of money which the doctoir required of patients, which apparently was below tho scale demanded by the society, and tho other dealt with alleged al-leged control of the sanitarium by nonprofessional non-professional persons. Justice McCardlo, who decided the case, called it a boycott. Ho decided that "tho plaintiffs did not sin against the honor of tho medical profession," which was the formal charge made against them by the Association. Thereforo he awarded heavy damages for the four doctors against the Association, As-sociation, ranging from $5,000 to S3,-500. S3,-500. . Probably tho case will be appealed to tho court of final resort, the House of Lords. |
