Show CATHOLICS TD PRAY FOB !K1 SIS SALT LAKE. Dec. 31 Volunteers who will attend one weekday mass during every week of the present month to pray for peace with victory for American arms were called for vesterday by the Rt. Rev. Joseph S. Glass. C. M., D. D., bishop of the Catholic Cath-olic diocese of Salt Lake. While calling call-ing for volunteers, the bishop said that if enough were not received to assure a good attendance at every weekday mass, the draft might bo resorted to, but the response was sufficient to make it apparent that conscription will not be necessary. The power of prayer, Bishop Glass said, cannot be overestimated as a factor fac-tor toward the defeat of the forces of materialism as represented by Germany. Ger-many. He called on all communicants, therefore, to assist daily at the masses and pray for victory. The bishop declared that Catholics can well afford, in addition to giving their young men for the service, supporting sup-porting the Red Cross buying Liberty bonds, conserving food and in every other possible way supporting the government, gov-ernment, to attend one weekday mass each week In addition to the Sunday masses, to offer up their prayers for American arms. Each volunteer was requested to hand in his name with a note as to which weekday mass he will attend. Communicants volunteered in large numbers. oo |
