With money obtained by pawning her mother's sable coat and jewels she outfits herself in regal fashion. She goes to Garibaldi's cabaret with her father's chauffeur as escoit that evening. even-ing. While the gayety is at its height, a shooting affray takes place. Her escort es-cort wrests a pistol from the assailant, but is mistaken for the gunman and is arrested. Nancy flees home. The chauffeur, arraigned on the shooting charge, is found to have in his pocket a girl's bag in which are pawntickets. He refuses to reveal how he came into possession of the bag and is also held as a lobbery suspect. Discovery of the robbery at the Wort-hing home sets the police in action. ac-tion. The detectives connect the chauffeur chau-ffeur with the crime, Nancy breaks down and confosses that she is the It then develops that the chauffeur is the son of a socially prominent family. fam-ily.
