Show RUSSIA TO FORM POWERFUL ARMY Force of 1,500,000 to Be Not Inferior to Japanese or Germans. MOSCOW. Tuesday, April 2. (Bv the Associated Press.) Russia will form an army of 1.500,000 men not inferior in-ferior in power and equipment to the Germans and Japanese, M. Podvoisky, assistant secretary of war, declared today at a conference in Moscow of the various military department heads This would be the first step in arming the whole Russian nation. He said the army organization was impossible without the old officers and outlined a measure to enlist the services of all generals and to publish their names, giving to citizens the right to state objections to any one. M. Podvoisky reported progress in enlistments for the Red army which was satisfactory in some places. Since the beginnmg of the army organization organiza-tion two weeks ago. 11.000 have enlisted en-listed in Moscow and been properly equipped. Nizhninovgorod. Voronezh, Eula, Kaluga, Kostroma. Tchernigov, Kharkov and many other cities report re-port considerable numbers of recruits, re-cruits, many of whom arc trained. The great handicap, he satd, was lack of instructors. |
