Show ROUO GREERHVELL WINS AT BASEBALL That the good right arm of Rollo Green well, erstwhile amateur baseball base-ball pitcher of Ogden. is appreciated in the army, is easily understood by read ing a letter his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George II. Greenwell 201 Twenty-second street, received from the young man from Vancouver Barracks. Rollo left Ogden recently as a volunteer for 1 the engineer's division at Vancouver Barracks. He tells vividly of winning a game for his own division as follow fol-low B : "Yesterday I pitched ball for Com pan) C against Company B and it was ! a fine game, striking out 18 men and not allowing a hit. The fellows almost carried me around and invited me to eat at the officers' table. They also gave me an extra uniform, and a good conduct pass, and with the pass I will i be able to go to town without asking for permission and will be able t come n at any time at night. "Last Thursday we were building bridges on the Columbia river. We I built one that extended about half j way across which took us about two j hours to build and tear down. It is in 1 1 resting work and lot. to learn. Next Sunday we are going to march to Port land and parad--d around tovn It is ?n eight-mile walk so I guess we will be 'all in' when we get back. They are going to take us out on the rifle range tomorrow and practice target shooting." |
