Parley White, complaining that the reports published in the newspapers concerning concern-ing conditions In Germany were untrue un-true and the reports of atrocities exaggerated, ex-aggerated, and extending a threat that if such stories were not suppressed the Germans of this country would take tho matter in their own hands and forco a correction, lord ysterday to the arrest of Edmund Thews, enemy ene-my alien, a chemist employed at the Garfield smelter. Thews will be interned. in-terned. The letter to the chief of police was at once turned over to David Gcrshon, special agent of the department of justice, who made an investigation which developed the fact that, after having taken out his first citizenship papers in tho United Suites, Thews reported to the German consul at Pueblo, Colo., where he was then employed em-ployed as a chemist, seeking a commission com-mission in the German army. Thew3 has repeatedly expressed his loyalty to the German emperdr" and his desire to help in the German cause against the allies. Thews came to Utah about July 1 making his home with his mother at 165 Second avenue.
