Show ENGLISH GIRLS HANG 01 TO AMERICAN SOLDIERS A letter, which appears to havo been severely censored, has been received re-ceived from Private Warren L. Taylor by his mother, Mrs. Levi J. Taylor, of Harrisvillc. Warren with the artillery ar-tillery from Camp Kearny, and writes the letter from England. Taylor was well known by many of the younger people of Ogden. Ho was a student at the Weber Normal College for several sev-eral years prior to his enlistment. The part of the letter which survived sur-vived tho shears of tho military censor cen-sor follows: "England, July 12th. 191S. Dear Mother: I finally got over here. It is surely a fine place. The only thing the matter now is that it rains a little too much. "Wo landed (Censored), walked about eight miles, made our beds on the floor and went to sleep. After wo had slept about four hours wo got up and packed our rolls, walked about a mile and got on the train, and here we are We may stay a couplo of days or fifteen minutes. You can't tell which. This country is certainly in a (censored.) (cen-sored.) The people in tho cities surely sure-ly don't get enough to eat. We were issued rations for twenty-four hours,; and then started to march through a city where so many people asked us for broad that we got (censored.) They think we are the only people living. When we were marching the girls would go along with us for a couple cou-ple of miles and hang on as though they were afraid of losing us. They said thoy wanted to treat us good; so wo let them. We had a fine time crossing the ocean. It was just as smooth as a tub all the way, and tho subs didn't bother us ." |
