Show MEANING OF THE NEW DRAFT. There is much speculation as to the full purpose of tho new draft which is advocated by the war department The bringing up of boys IS is commented com-mented on, and the drafting of men 40 to 45 years of age is the subject of conversation. Our opinion is that boys IS will not be considered fit for "overseas" until they have had from IS months to two years' training. By that time the war may be over. Including men well up in years may bo for the purpose of being able to pick out those in shipyards and on other government work who are loaf-Ing loaf-Ing on their jobs. When a workman shows Indications of making his government gov-ernment job a snap, he will be touched on the shoulder and notified to appear at the office, of the foreman, where this conversation will occur: "Mr. Smith, wc have been watching your movements and have decided this work is too monotonous for a man of your temperament, and, therefore, have decided to place you on a more exciting job. You are called to the trenches. You are in charge of Sergeant Ser-geant Brown, who will escort you to Camp. Proceed!" |
