Show ALLIES HOLD LINES. (By Tho Associated Press.) WITH THE BRITISH ARMY IN FRANCE, Aug. 10. Because the allies al-lies gained all their objectives it is posslblo the enemy does not know where he was beaten It Is therefore inadvisable to disclose exactly where the allies are operating. It may be said, however ,that the British infantry infan-try and tanks reached tho points they Intended to attain and this morning they are holding consolidated lines along tho fronL The allied forces captured many towns, a largo quantity of material and a complete German divisional headquarters and staff. This headquarters head-quarters was captured at Linons. The number of prisoners this morning Is close to 25,000. Numerous Tanks in Action. North of the Somme the allies, after laking Chipllly spur, have gone on, driving the enemy before them. Numerous Nu-merous tanks and "whippets" assisted the advancing infantry. Further south the French advanced rapidly and increased their number of prisoners ns they pushed their line forward. The Germans are now well back toward to-ward the Somme, south of Peronne, with the stream at their back and the allied guns and airplanes pouring shells Into the crossings over the Somme, the position of the enemy is serious. j |
