Show iSOME GOOD j' 1 CONGESTION Dark clouds often have silver llnincs( and the greatest adversities often prove to be blessings. At this time when the freight cat congestion has reached Its worst point, especially In , I the motor car Industry, some of the manufacturers have found that some ' pood features have developed from the j situation. "A shortage of freight cars has really real-ly proved a stimulant to the motor car business." says F. E. Slmonton. president presi-dent of the 8. B I. Motor Sales company com-pany 1280 Broadway. "The situation has caused a great deal of confusion and worked hard ships on manufacturer, dealer and user alike on account of the inability to secure enough cars to transport the finished automobiles to distributing points This has slowed up business I in general and the motor car industry j has felt the situation keenly. "But eventually the whole situation will be turned into a real blessing. I Never before has the necessity of the J automobile been so well demonstrated ! I as during this frelpht shortage. We have heard for years about the automobile auto-mobile as a luxury, but no better example ex-ample of the motor vehicle as a neces- . sity has ever developed. "We learned also that the so-called I'polnt of saturation' that many ha e i talked about has not been reached as j evidenced by the loud cries from all sections of the country for shipments of automobiles. In every section of 1 the United States there is today a serious se-rious shortage of motor cars due to ;he Inability of the railroads to handle the motor products There la a goodi number of cars at most of the motor manufacturing centers, but not enough I to take care of the demand which we know exists from actual orders on hand. "But the freight shortage has affected affect-ed every line of industry and motor vehicles have been employed in unheard-of fields to take the place of the usual railroad transportation. The motor mo-tor car has been tested In this situation situa-tion and has proved efficient. An-other An-other feature of the situation is the fact that the tie up has come about in the most severe time of the winter a period which, heretofore, the motor mo-tor car was supposed to be more or less impracticable. City merchants and manufacturers of all kinds have made their deliveries by use of the automobile Instead of waiting for re-1 lief from the railroads. "The practicability of automobile de-liveries de-liveries has been demonstrated during, the most severe winter we have had In several years. Merchants who were skeptical of the use of the motor car for delivery purposes have been forced I by circumstances to give the motor: cars a trial. They have proved so val- uable if is doubtful if railroad monopoly monop-oly will ever be restored. Certainly the motor car traffic will grow and' the motor car for winter use has won a most pronounced victory. "The whole freight car situation has Imply demonstrated once more the ex-tensive ex-tensive fields for the automobile which are still open and uncultivated. It Is simply another demonstration which v e see ever so often of the uses for , which the automobile can be utilized." |
