During 1916 over 33,d00 horses and mules were handled, bought, sold and shipped by and through the vards of this company in Ogden, the labor connected con-nected with the undertaking being a very important item, a small army of men at times being required to properly prop-erly operate the great and 'growing business of the company and perform the field duties incident thereto. The business for tho current vear will equal, and probably exceed "that done in 1916. many thousand horsos and mules having already poured through the yards of the company in an endless stream since the opening of the season. Between 3,000 and -1,000 head wero accepted by thcfU. S. government from this company in July, another large contract with the government is now-being now-being filled, and sales that are held every three weeks result in placing hundreds of animals with the numerous numer-ous buyers that flock to this market from nearly all points in the United States. This company has brought to Ogden one, of its principal Industries, pays out hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, maintains a small army of employes em-ployes in the city, and has attracted the attention of eminent horsemen from many parts of the country who now come to Ogden for the purchase of such numbers of animals from this company as they and their customers may desire. Recent shipments' of horses and mules, have gone to Chicago, Now York, New Orleans, Galesburg, San Francisco, American Lake, Rockford, Miles City, St. Louis, Denver, Jersey City, Cheyenne, Long Island City, Grand Island, Fort Smith, Brooklyn, Greeley, Loveland, Fort Worth, Qrcat Falls, Memphis ajid other places, aside from a large number of war horses that have been shipped abroad. The large number of horses taken by this company from western states, and the care that is exercised in making mak-ing the selections, both by the company com-pany and by the government inspectors, inspec-tors, has already resulted in western stock breeders and raisers making an effort to Improve their breeds, and will eventually result in there being a better bet-ter breed of horses and mules generally general-ly throughout tho west the home and birthplace of the best of American horseflesh. rr |
