Show LITTLE GIRL STRUCK BY AN AUTOMOBILE IS SERIOUSLY . INJURED AND MAY DIE Norma Madson, tho three-year-old daughter of Enoch Madsen, 149 North Washington avenue, was struck by an automobilo in front of her homo at 11 30 o'clock this morning and in Jured probably fatally. The child's head was crushed, concussion of the brain being probably sustainod, and one of tho ar.ms was broken. The machine ma-chine was driven by a man named Georgo Hobbs who was on his way to Ogden from Logan, with his wifo, Intending In-tending to tako up his residence here. Tho machine was a Cadillac, No. 9066. Mr. Hobbs stopped aftor striking tho little girl and assisted her relatives rela-tives in every way possible to got medical attention. From an investigation investi-gation by tho police and from statements state-ments of neighbors and tho children who were playing with the child when sho was Injured tho accident 1b declared de-clared to havo been unavoidable on the part of Mr. Hobbs. It Is said that the baby ran directly into tho path of tho car and when Mr. Hobbs swerved to escape striking hor, sho again ran into tho course of tho machine, ma-chine, Tho childron of this neighborhood aro said to play considerably in tho road and to havo a trick of running into the path of an automobilo and then, whon It stops suddenly, to laugh and run away. It is thought the little Madsen girl was imitating her play, mates when she ran toward the ma chine. .Hobbs put his emergency brakes on when ho saw an accident was imminent, im-minent, but could not avoid striking tho child. Sergeant Kelliher and Detective Hobson Investigated the accident, taking tak-ing Mr. Hobbs' name and numbor for reference pending a final investiga tion. The baby's father, Enoch Madsen, is an employe of the Becker Browing company. Tho child was not taken to tho hospital and It is not known yet as to tho exact seriousness of her Injuries. Mr. Hobbs was placed under arrest aftor tho accident and taken to the county jail but was not held. Ho stated to officers that, as he was passing along the road near the scene of tho accident a boy about 13 years of age standing near the guttor, dared tho small child to run in front of the automobilo and thon dashed In front himself and ran across tho road. The littlo child immediately followed, being onljr about ten foet away from tho machine when sho started. Mr. Hobbs applied tho omergency brakes but could not avoid striking tho baby. Tho wheel of tho machine ran over tho child's head, crushing tho skull above tho ear. |
