Show Clinton Larson Exceeds Own Record of 6 Feet 1 . Inch in High Jump, Going Up Inch Higher. FRESNO, Calif., Sept. 2S Clinton Larson, the great Utah jumper, broke his own far-western record of 6 feet 1 Inch in the high jump at the far-wostern far-wostern track and field meet here today, to-day, going up 6 foot 2 inches. Larson nlso won the broad jump and placed second In tho hop, step and jump. Ted Johnson, Utah long distance star, was an easy winner in tho five-mile five-mile race, but warm weather made It impossible for any fast time. Johnson was entered in the mile run and started start-ed but did not make any showing whatever. what-ever. In tho five-mile race there were six starters, but Johnson and E. V. Stout of tho Olympic club, were tho only two to finish. Johnson was leading by nearjy a quarter of a mile at the fin-jish. fin-jish. O. J. Millard, who was to have also entered the five-mile race, was un-'able un-'able because of illness. Larson by winning two events and placing second in a third was the second sec-ond best point winner of the meet. Ollie Snedigar led with 16 points. The Pacific athletic association with 123 1-3 points, won tho championship. The Southern Pacific association was ' second with 50 2-3, and the Intermoun-( Intermoun-( tain association was third with 18. ; Tho Olympic club of San Francisco ; rolled up the highest Individual club score with 93 points. Other organizations organiza-tions finished with tho following score: Los Angeles Athletic club, 25 2-3; University Uni-versity of California, 25; University of Southern California, 15; Brlgham Young University, 13; United States army, 6; Deseret Gymnasium, Salt Lake City, 5. J. K. Moody, of the University of California, set a new far-western record rec-ord in the 440-yard dash with a time of 49 3-5 seconds. C. A. Hoenischc, of tho University of California, won tho 440-yard hurdles hurd-les In 55 2-5 seconds, which was bet-i bet-i (er time than tho war-western record, j but a record was not allowed because the hurdles were not standard height. |
