Show uu ' CATTLE RECEIPTS ' GREATLY INCREASE WASHINGTON, Sept. 29. Receipts of cattle at the principal stockyards of tho country for the first eight months of 1917 show a substantial increase, but there was a decided falllng-off in the movement of hogs and sheep. The department of agriculture announced an-nounced today that cattle receipts of 10,679,987 head compared with 8,191,-618 8,191,-618 in the same period of 1916 while receipts of hogs were 22,532.927 against 24,408,981 and sheep 7.9S0.539 against 8,535,535. Receipts of hogs August 1 were less than half of thoso in August 1916, the figures being 1,117,635 this year as compared with 2,276,537 last year. Equivalent figures for sheep were 1,-453,176 1,-453,176 and 1,861.815. Cattle receipts increased over 200,000 head, the figures being 1,705,812 and 1,527,069. |
