An effort by a committee representing business '. interests to settle the city's transit strike and avert a general sympath- when Theodore P. Shonts, president of the Inter-borough Rapid Transit ; company, refused to consider a plan suggested by a committee to re-open '; ' negotiations with the street car em-; em-; ployes. Mr. Shonts informed the committee which went to his office from a con-i con-i ference with Mayor John P. Mitchel that "there is no strike on the Inter-"borough." Inter-"borough."
