Show Pffl! COAST j SHOOTING MEET ! 1 Moroni Skeen, county commission- lf er, and W. H. Draney returned last night from Portland, Oregon, where I they attended tho Pacific Coast Han- t dlcap shoot. Mr. Skeen participated in the tourney, but did not try for the handicap trophy, which was won by an eastern adept at the traps. The i commissioner's average In the class i in which he was entered was a frac tion above 90 per cent, the high aver-ago aver-ago of the handicap winner. Mr. Skeen's failure to enter for the handicap han-dicap competition was due to a mls- understanding regarding entry re quirements. While the journey to the Pacific coast city was primarily for the purpose pur-pose of attending the shooting tourney, tour-ney, Mr. Skeen took advantage of the opportunity to inspect road construction construc-tion work under improved methods in progress on the Columbia highway. This roadway is the principal highway high-way of that state. It extends from Portland along the Columbia river. The commissioner stated that he had gained some information from ; the inspection that could be applied advantageously in road work in Well We-ll ber county. It. "The road engineers and builders ; there are ahead of us in some respects," re-spects," said Mr. Skeen, "but not in every way. The methods employed in road construction in Wc-ber county coun-ty average well with those employed in Portland. Utah can procure better roads than Oregon because greater natural resources afford the necessary supplies that are barely obtainable In that state. We have rock and shale and concrete in abundance. In Ore-i Ore-i gon it is a continual search for rock, t . which is a scarcity there as compared with the never-ending supply available avail-able here." nn |
