Show ITALIAN OFFENSIVE SAID TO BE FURIOUS London, Sept. IS. The new Italian offensive from the Carso to the sea is hourly gaining in vigor. After three days of ferocious fighting General Ca-dorna's Ca-dorna's troops have broken through the Austrian third line in the Monfal-cone Monfal-cone region and success is reported by the Rome war office along the entire line of attack. Tonight's official report says that "wherever the enemy penetrated our first trenches he was driven out again." Italian attempts to advance on the Fassane ridge are described as fruitless. The Italian war office this afternoon after-noon reported the capture of a whole series of Austrian positions from Op-pachiazella Op-pachiazella southward through Pietra Rossa. The Austrlans wore driven from a number of dominant heights holding up the Italian advance along the Vallone. Tho Koelnlscho Zeitung says the present fighting on tho Italian front Is comparable to nothing previously witnessed wit-nessed in that theatre and is as furl, ous as that on 'the Somme and comparable com-parable to the fighting in the last Russian offensive. The paper's correspondent cor-respondent says General Cadorna has adopted the tactics of General Brus-siloff, Brus-siloff, attacking a short front and hurling thick infantry masses into bat-tie. |
