Show TAX AMENDMENT OPPOSED BY TANNER Provo, Oct. 23. R. R. Tanner, for- 1 mer member of the state board of equalization, addressed a meeting in the opera house this evening in opposition oppo-sition to the constitutional amendment amend-ment on taxation. Mr. Tanner said the main question involved was whether the taxing powers pow-ers should remain with tho people or be transferred to the legislature and the 'office-holding class. He also referred re-ferred to the provisions of the original orig-inal constitution which placed exact limits on tax levies and bond issues and which had been weakened by amendments already adopted and would be further weakened if the present amendment was adopted. He said the announced purpose of the state board of equalization was to eliminate taxation entirely from the constitution and place full jurisdiction juris-diction over all taxation matters in the hands of the legislature and the state boar.d of equalization with power pow-er to place different rates on various vari-ous classes of property. Mr. Tanner's address was well received re-ceived by those present. |
