Show Mrs. Henry J. Garner Is Choked to Death t By Electric Wringer Arriving home from school late yesterday yes-terday afternoon, Milton Garner, the young son of Bishop and Mrs. Henry' J. Garner of Plain City, found his, mother lying unconscious against the ( electric wringer on her washing machine. ma-chine. She had been choked by a silk fascinator which she was wearing about hor head and neck and which had been caught by the wringer In such a manner that she could not extricate ex-tricate it or shut off the electric power. Horrified, tho boy ran to his father's fath-er's store and told of tho accident. As-, As-, slstance for Mrs. Garner was soon at hand, but it camo too late as the swJft ly revolving machinery had done its working too well. Dr. J. R. Morrelll was summoned from Ogden, but the unfortunate woman was dead bofore he reached the scene. The tragedy cast a cloud of gloom over tho Plain City community and news of It was received In Ogden with deep regret as Mrs. Garner was one of tho best known and best loved women In the county. Three weeks ago, she was appointed captain of the Plain City company, Daughters of tho Pioneers, Pio-neers, this honor being added to many others accorded her In church organ-1 Izatlons. She was born a member of the Church of Josus Chrl6t of Latter-day Latter-day Saints and an active worker therein there-in '"virtually all her life. Her latest position, which she held at the time or hor untimely death,, was that of a director In the parents' class of the Plain City Sunday school. Mrs, Garner was born in Eden, Ogden Og-den Valley, June S, 1866, the daughter of Richard and Mary Pierco Ballan-tyne. Ballan-tyne. She was married, January 31, 1S84, In Salt Lake City, to Henry J. Garner and they lived in Ogden until 1894 The family then moved to Plain City and had lived there ever since. Tho deceased is survived by her husband hus-band and the following children: Richard, Milton E., Rulon B. and Lydla Garner, of Plain City; Mrs. Ethel Manning of Ogden; Mrs. Edna Wayment, Oxford, Idaho; Mrs. Iona Bingham. Salt Lake. Six grandchildren grandchil-dren and the' following brothers and sisters also survive: Zacharlah Bftl-lantyne, Bftl-lantyne, Rlgby, Idaho; James E. Bal-lantyne Bal-lantyne of Ogden; Hober Ballantyne of Baker City, Ore.; Mrs. Mary Farr of St. Johns, Ariz.; Mrs. Jennlo Anderson, Ander-son, of Salt Lake City; Joseph, Thomas Thom-as and Jed Ballantyno of Ogden are half-brothers of Mrs. Garner. The funeral announcements will bo made later. |
