But the best he could i fH do was to be assigned to the leftover 1 H squad. It was the day before the big I H game, the winning of which meant I , B so much to the college. That night I UB tho left-over stood at the window1 of B his room, watching Captain Dick I B Thorton as he walked across the cam- It jH pus. The rules forbid Thorton, or I H any other member of the team, being ( H abroad at night.- Two hours later the I '1 left-over found Thorton drunk in the I;v H rear roonnof a notorious resort. Drag- I , iH ging Dick back to the campus, the rJI left-over came upon the idol's sweet- itiil heart Quickly he rushed the drunk- ll en man behind a bush, keeping him vil there until the girl had passed. f B The big game was on. In the stand I 'H the girl watched the pathetic figure WH of the man s'ho loved. She was quick vH to realize the cause. In the dressing EH room, the left-over sat alone. Sudden- IH ly Thorton collapsed. "Take my ll place," he commanded of the left-over. il Quickly the left-over stepped forward, il then stopped. A desperate scheme sug- lH gested itself. He was the same size H emu uuim aa luuuuii: in a. moment ih he had changed uniforms with Dick and at the bell took his place in the fB line up. That college game went down in hlstor'. The supposed Thor- H ton seemed to suddenly come to life. H His plays were not only snappy, but so B puzzling to the other side that they H could do nothing with him.
