Show WAYWARD 61 SENTll TOIL TO SERVE THIRTY DAYS A case of unusually distressing conditions con-ditions in the life of a 20-j-ear-old girl, was beforo Municipal Judge G. S. Barker this morning. The girl, who Is of local parentage, was arrested on a I charge of vagrancy by Sergeant Jerry I Kelllher, at the request of her mothor, j and gave her name as Louiso Smith. I According to tho court rocords, she E had suffered arrest on similar charges I throo times within the past six months. In telling her story, the girl 1 admitted having lived In error several I years ago, and said she had tried to I reform, but at home her past was kept I before her and discouragement drovo her back into tho old ways. Judgo Barker said it was one of his f most painful duties to render a de- t clsion in a case of the kind, but be- lleved a period of confinement neces- Bary for the best good of the defend- j ant. He then sentenced the girl to I serve 30 days In Jail and stated that, j in the meantime, he would endeavor j to Interest proper persons, so that she might be given a fair chanco to lead a good life. Robert Terry, convicted of batten', was sentenced to serve 200 days In Jail or to pay a fine of $200. The complaining com-plaining witness In the case was Edward Ed-ward Stoker. L. G. Hogar was found gulty of mendicancy and sentenced to serve five days In Jail. John Barney and John Miller were given alternative sentences of a ?5 fine or five days in jail. They were found guilty of drunkenness. oo |
