Show uu " FOUR YOUNG LADIES MEET WITH I DEFESI In an extemporaneous speaking contest con-test staged this morning at the Weber academy, Ezra Chandler and Andrew Kasius of tho sopromore clasB defeated de-feated four young lady representatives of the other classes. The young ladies lad-ies were Julia Russell, Ruth Tanner, Verna Oborn and Dorothy Woods. Ida Shurtliff, David Wilson and E. E. Hol-ton, Hol-ton, of the faculty, acted aB judges. The program of speeches was carried car-ried out aa follows: "The Relationship of a Student Body to the Faculty," Julia Russell. "What Should Be the Power of a Board of Education?" Ruth Tanner "Should Latin be Included In a High School Curriculum?" Verna Oborn "Should We Have Compulsory Edu cation?" Andrew Kasius. "What is the Most Feasible Plan of Education Those Who Work Manually During Daylight?" Dorothy Woods. "What Place Should Vocational Training Have on a High School Course?" Ezra Chandler. Each address was received with enthusiastic en-thusiastic applause by the student body and the speakers were given general gen-eral praise In the decision handed down by the judges. Leroy Hanson and George Hickman, debaters of the Brlgham Young College, Col-lege, Logan, wero Interested auditors at the contest and both addressed the student body briefly, congratulating the school on Its excellent progress along the lines of public speaking. oo- |
