Show COLLISION OFF CAPE RACE, N.F. Boston, Feb 1. The American tank steamer Silver Shell and a steamer believed to be either the Takata Maru or the Tokushiraa Maru, the former a new vessel, were in collision near Cape Race, N F., just before midnight mid-night tonight The Japanese steamer was reported sinking, the latest word being that the wireless dynamo room was flooded. The Silver Shell, which was dnmaged, but not dangerously, was standing by ready to lend assistance. The Silver Shell, carrying a cargo of petroleum for Dunkirk, France, sailed from Bayonne. N. J last Thursday. Thurs-day. The Tokushima Maru sailed from New York a day later, bound for Vladivostok with war supplies. The Takaita Maru is ten days out of London bound for New York. Halifax, N S., Feb. 1. The vessel in collision with the American tan steamer Silver Shell off Cape Race tonight was the American tank steamer steam-er Takaita Maru, bound from London to Now York. Wireless messages to the Silver Shell late tonight said that it was feared that the Japanese steamer steam-er had sunk. The steamer Armonia was standing by the Silver Shell, which was badly damaged. |
