Show oo NEW MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD. Yesterday a couple of business men of Ogden called on the Standard Editor Edi-tor to inquire as to the school board salary. We stated $100 per year. "Why in the world would a man in business in Ogden seek that job'" wan the next query. We answered that some people sought to get in where angelB feared to tread. We arc told that people actually are going around with a petition Becking endorsements en-dorsements for their application. It appears to us, with the present Mills trouble on hand, It would require indeed in-deed a man of nerve who would de-liborately de-liborately try to push hlmHelf In to the present muddle In school affairs, unless he has an to: to grind. When George Glen resigned, thf old board selected Judge H. II. Henderson Hen-derson a8 the one man In the Fourth ward who would give his time and ability to help straighten out Bchool affairs. Judge Henderson had no petition pe-tition out, and he did not seek or ask for the office. It was offered to him by tho members of the board He told the board, if they wanted to draft him for the good he could do the Ogden schools, he would accept, otherwise oth-erwise not. He was elected as a free man who made no promises to anyone. any-one. Why not draft another man the same way? Got 'another educated man, If you can. A university grad uate, If possible. The following names have been handed in as men who might be coaxed into the school board. The first named was superintendent super-intendent of the Ogden schools for many years before Mr. Mills Why should his experience of almost a life time be lost to the Ogden schools? William Allison. Fred E. Williams. , J. S. Campbell. N. O. Ogden. James Cassin. Dr John Driver. "William Moyes. Gomer A. Nicholas. O. J. Stilwell and Mrs. O. J. Stil-woll Stil-woll The last two are experienced but retired teachers. There are many others in the First ward who would make good members of the Ogden Board of Education It would be best, If one who had no ax to grind, should be selected and accept ac-cept the place for the good he could do the Ogden schools. It probably will be hard to find such a man, but find him and then draft him into the service. No loyal, patriotic citizen ;ould dare to refuse under such conditions. |
