Show uu WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE SCHOOLS? Down at the bottom of all this school disturbance is the MillB half-day half-day plan. When the Ogden public school survey sur-vey was made by W. S. Deffenbaugh and the men associated with him. Supt Mills was requested to set forth hie plan Commenting on Mills reply, the educators in their report (see page 19 of the printed roport) made this criticism: "Wo must take Issue with tho superintendent sup-erintendent In respect to the plan, ns being unpedagogical, unnecessary and well nigh Impossible of realization. On the elective system, which was another point In contention in this city, Prof. Geo. A. Eaton of the survey sur-vey (see page 23) Bald: "I have firm conviotlons on the subject sub-ject ot the elective ByBtem of studies for high school students. The tendency tend-ency in such a system, with little or no modification, Is bound to be In tha direction of woak scholarship." Thero you have two of the big underlying un-derlying causes of all this uproar in the schools of Ogden, and also an explanation ex-planation of why thero is a strong and unrelenting demand for a change. It Is not necessary to ascribe sinister sin-ister motives. The men who made the survey sounded a warning to tho pnrents of this city who havo the welfare of their children at heart.
