Show PROTECTION FOR THE TEACHERS OF THE STATE An echo of a furore in Ogden caused by a letter sent by J. M. MUls, superintendent su-perintendent of schools, to tho Ogden teachers, suggesting that they contribute con-tribute money to meet the campaign expenses of Dr. E. G. Gowana, the "nonpartisan" candidate who waa elected state superintendent of public pub-lic instruction, came up in the senate yesterday. It was in the form of a bill, introduced by Senator Choz of Weber county, prohibiting school authorities or persons connected with any state Institution from soliciting funds for political purposes from school teachers, school employes or board members. Many Ogden teachers protested against contributing to Dr. Gowans'w election to the state office. Senator Chez would like to see his bill pass in order to prevent a recurrence of the turmoil the Mills incident is said to have brought about in the Weber metropolis. The bill went to the committee on education. |
