Show HERZOG TO PLAY AND GUIDE TEAM Cincinnati, O . Dec 19 Charle-s j Herzog former ball player with the New York and Boston National league clubs, was chosen yesterday as manager of tbe Cincinnati team for the season of 1914. After a con-terence con-terence with the board of directors ana a second conference with President Presi-dent August Herrmann and Secretary Harry Stephens. Herzog signed a contract as a player for a year and wys then officially made manager. Herzoc steps Into the position made acant by the ealo of former Manager Man-ager Joe Tinker to tho Brooklyn club. He will play at shortstop, as did Tinker, and guide the team on the field. Henog outlined hi. Ideas of a winning team to the board of dl-tectors dl-tectors and they were approved. Herzog said he believed In a fast, dashing team, much on the order of the New York National league club, of which he was a member before coming to Cincinnati but added he bad no trades or sales tn mind at present. Herzog Is 28 years old and was born In Baltimore.
