Show UTAH DEMOCRATS NOT CONSULTED Washington. D. C, Dec. 18 Charles Spalding Thomas, LTnited States sen - ator from Colorado, Is now the man who has the "sa" as to how the Utah political pie shall be divided. To i him are granted the same powers f .is would Ik- allow eM a Democratic senator sen-ator from Utah, If there were one. He supersedes V. R. Wallace, national committeeman from Utah, and tho state committee, in the exercise ol those privileges The appointment of Charles Cam-mon. Cam-mon. a native of Colorado, and assistant assist-ant assayer at the United States assay as-say office In Salt Lake, to be assayer In charge, succeeding J. U Eldredgc, Jr., comes, it was learned on good authority here, as the direct result of the Tavor shown him by the Democratic Demo-cratic senator from his own state In the case of Mr Gammon the selection se-lection made by the Utah national committeeman and the state committee commit-tee which has sometimes proved to be his advisory board, and at other times something entirely different was turned down Similarly all future fu-ture appointments in Utah are to be dealt with without regard to the wish ea of Mr. Wallace or of the state com mittee. Neither Mr. Wallace nor the state committee will have voice In the matter. Since the Utah Democracy De-mocracy was not able to settle Its own differences, but engaged- in in temeclne political strife between ir Reconcilable faction-;, the recommen dations that will have weight in the future will be that of the senior sen ator from Colorado The next problems to be put up to him are believed to be those ot selecting the next United States roar shal and United States attorney for the district of Utah. His word on these will be accepted as virtually fiual, the sending of the name of his selection to the senate following as a formality oo |
