S-miIp. aged 77 years, the first school teacher in th Hooper district dis-trict and a pioneer of Weber county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eva Van Fleet, in Farmlngton, yesterday yes-terday after an illness which followed fol-lowed a Ftroke of apoplexy sustained last August, His death, which occurred occur-red at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, was duo to dropsy. Mr. Soule at the age of 24 years join ed one of the companies which set out for the gold fields of California The company broke up when it reached reach-ed Utah and Mr. Soule decided to make his home In this state. In 1S51 be joined the Mormon church taking up his residence at Hooper six years later. The remainder of his life, with the exception of the few months that he resided with his daughter, was spent in the Weber county village, where he not only served as its first school teacher, but also as justice of the peace. Mr. Soule. during the early '80s, served a two years' mission in I his native state He is survived hv the widow and the following snns and daughters: Miss Lucretla Soule, Provo, Orson T Soiile Salt Lake City; Henry W. Soule. Frank I. Soule and Mrs. Mary Sturdevant, all of St Anthony, Idaho; Ida-ho; Iiwrence J. Soule, Hooper; MrB Van Fleet, Farmlngton. and Grant Soule, who is attending college In Washington, D. C The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon with services in the Hooper chapel at 1 oclock. The interment will be made in the Hooper cemetery The body will lie In state at the home of Mrs. Van Fleet in Farmlngton and may be viewed by the friends on Saturday Sat-urday afternoon and evening and until 10 o'clock Sunda morning oo |
