Show oo CITY PARK BOARD IS TENDERED It appearing to tho city park commission com-mission that the city board of commissioners com-missioners has virtually decided to place the control of the parks in the hands of Commissioner Chris Fly-gare, Fly-gare, who is superintendent of streets and parks, the members yesterday afternoon af-ternoon cleared the. board of all business busi-ness and tendered their resignations. The matter will be acted upon by the city board of commissioners Monday evening. President J. W. P. Volker's term of office as park commissioner terminated term-inated January 1 of this year and the commissioners had been requostod to Till the vacancy at once, but the board had taken no action. The park commissioner had also asked for an appropriation of $15,000 for the maintenance main-tenance of parks for the year, but that request had also been unheeded, so the parkmen concluded that their services were no longer needed. The members of the board were J. W. F. Folker, F. M. Driggs and T. H. Carr. The resignations wore made under protest, which may possibly cause legal le-gal investigations. Mayor Fell stated today that the matter will be taken up Monday night with the possibility of another board being appointed or the reappointment of the members who resigned. He states that in a consultation a short time ngo with members of the park commission and the city attorney. It was practical' concluded that the law creating the commission form of government Intended that the parks should be placed under thp direction direc-tion of one of the commissioners and that, inasmuch as Commissioner Fly-garo Fly-garo has been designated as superintendent super-intendent of parks at well as of streets and public improvements, it Is possible that under the law he will be held responsible for the supervision supervi-sion of the parks. |
