Show SOUTHERN UTAH MM TELLS OF PAROWAfa VALLEY R. II. McBrlde of Paragoonah, Iron county, is in the city for a brief visit with his son and grand children. He will attend the April term of the federal fed-eral court as a juror, In Salt Lake. Mr. McBrlde speaks highly of ' tho growth of southern Utah and says the prospects for further advancement advance-ment have never been brighter. Nearly Near-ly every available Bection of farm land in the Parowan valley has been settled upon and the entire valley is dotted with farm houses. The popu lation of Cedar City, Parowan anu Paragoonah has increased greatly in the past few years and many new homes and business houses have been erected. Parowan valley, he says, is a veritable verit-able San Louis valley In point of artesian ar-tesian water. An abundant water supply in the Parowan valley is encountered en-countered at depths ranging from SO to 200 feet and In many instances a flow of 10 gallons a minute is obtained obtain-ed at a depth of 15 feet in a 2-Inch casing. There is a well near Parowan Paro-wan at a depth of 500 feet operated by an electric pump, that furnishes 750 gallons a minute. Botli Parowan and Paragoonah have electric light and water works systems and the waters of Little Salt Lake, on the west side of the valley, are being conserved to irrigate lands iu the Rush Salt valley and the Esca-lante Esca-lante desert, northwest of Cedar City. Artesian water will also be used to fill this natural reservoir. Mr. McBride has not been in Ogden since 18S3 when a little frame shack constituted the depot and the only pretentious side walk was made of boards on a single street. This was the year when the Broom hotel was completed and It was heralded all over the country as a great building. He is greatly surprised at the growth of Ogden and says that, because of the many natural facilities of Ogden and vicinity and it being the recognized recog-nized railroad center of the inter-mouneain inter-mouneain region, It will eventually be the commercial metropolis of the mountain region. |
