Show II uu BUTTE IS I COfflGL! OE THE SOCIALST PAW After an absence of a number of weeks, David Maule has returned from Butte. Montana, where he has large business interests. Ho states that the outlook for the year in the big I raining city Is promising and that the I mines are being worked to their ca-: ca-: pacity.- There are four companies operating and they all are large con-i con-i ccrns ! While in Butte, Mr. Maule exef ', cised his elective franchise in a city election which was held on April . i The Socialists were the victors and i Mr. Maule says they have absolute i control of the city. Of 16 councll- men. 9 are Socialists and 7 Democrats, the Republicans not being represented in the city administration at all. The mayor is a Socialist and that organi-i organi-i zatlon has full sway. It Is hoped by i business men of Butte, however, that the radicalism of the Socialists may be curbed and the city saved from extreme ex-treme measures. One radical step pointed to at this time is the adoption of a resolution that street sweepers shall receive $4-a $4-a day-. It is expected that the scale of wages for labor of the city will be placed at a high standard, i . - |
