The senate yesterday again killed the resolution proposing the ratification oi the proposed pro-posed amendment to the federal con-st'tution con-st'tution for the direct election of I'nited States senators, but the resolution reso-lution still lives on a motion to reconsider re-consider but will likely die today Three weeks ago the resolution failed to pass the senate, through tacking one ote An identical resolution reso-lution was then Introduced in the house and passed that body with but three votes against it The house resolution came up for passage in the senate yesterday and Senator Ride-out, Ride-out, author of the original senate res. olntion. asked that action be deferred until today on account of the absence of five members of tho senate. The senate declined to grant his request and the resolution was promptly defeated de-feated by a ote of 4 to 9 Senators! Craig and Cottrell. who had previous -lv voted for the resolution, now voted against It, The roll call stood: Aye Kelly, Olson. Rideout, Smith 4.' Noes Cottrell.
