Show I SOCIALISTS OF I OGDEN ARE AROUSED The Socialists of Ogden. at a moot fng held in the city hall last evening, adopted the following resolutions of censure directed against those who are prosecuting Eugene V. Debs and others "WhereaB at the present time our Comrades Eugene V. Debs. Fred D. Warren, J I Sheppard and C L Phl-fer Phl-fer are under indictment on trumped-up trumped-up charges, their real crime bfdng the exposure of the unspeakably vile and immoral conditions in the federal prison pris-on at Leawnworth, Kan, and the enlightenment en-lightenment of the people through the Appeal to Reason a6 to the true character of the government and the plutocracy which dominate affairs; and "Whereas it appears evident from the sworn testlmon in these cases taken in the contempt proceedings a' Fort Scott, Kan., last May that the t charges upon -which the indictments were returned have no foundation in I, fact, and that therefore it is appar ent that these indictments are part of a gigantic ronsplracy of long standing stand-ing to persecute and defame our comrades com-rades and bring discredit upon our former presidential candidate; and "Whereas the Appeal to Reason, one of our most aluable fighting organs, or-gans, has for many years been undergoing un-dergoing a continuous governmental persecution, with the evident objec' in iew to harass and limit it and if possible to destroy it altogether; and "Whereas we believe the splendid efforts of our comrades and the Appeal Ap-peal to Reason in doing a public service ser-vice by denouncing the unspeakably foul conditions at Leavenworth and bringing them to an end arc com- ! mendable and praise-worthy and that J the men under Indictment are of Unsullied Un-sullied character, high purpose and large achie ernent ; and Whereas the Appeal :o Reason is today the most eftcctlve weapon of our movement against governmental abuses of power, and it is rapidly educating ed-ucating the masses in Socialism nnd acainst class-ruled courts and ma-1. ma-1. . ' chine-made judges, be it by us Resolved That local Ogden of the Socialist party emphatically protests againsl the unwarranted and unjustifiable unjusti-fiable persecution of Eugene Y D IDS Fred D. Warren. I 1 Sheppard and C L Phifer and the Appeal to Reason, Rea-son, published at Girard. Kan and that we demand that a thorough and Impartial Investigation be- made into the methods of the attorney generals office in these cases; and be it fur-t fur-t hermoro "Resolved. That we denounce and repudiate the policy of the administration administra-tion which, under the forms of jus-tlce, jus-tlce, is carrying on a detestable war-tare war-tare against our press; and that w spread these resolutions upon our minutes send a copy to the President Presi-dent of the United States, a copy to the attorney general, a copy to each of this Btate'6 senators and congress-man congress-man a copy to the Appeal to Reasou and copies to the local press.
