smallest displacement of warships now being built philadelphia sept 30 special interest is attached to atre battleship mississippi which is to be launched today at cramps ship yards since it will carry the smallest displacement of any united states battleship now being built with the exception of the idaho a sister ship tha displacement ot theae two vessels is tons each while all tho later built ships including the vermont kansas and minnesota now being completed in other ship yards have a displacement of tons tho mississippi will be lemual to many battleships of tons displacement and vessel of the same displacement in any navy of the nations carries equally heavy batteries tho main batteries will consist ot four 12 inch breech loading rifles mounted in two turrets eight S inch breech loading rifles in our turrets eight 7 inch breech loaders behind casement armor and two 21 inch submerged torpedo tubes also the secondary batteries twelve 3 inch six 3 two 1 automatics two 1 rapid fire runs two 3 inch field pieces two machine guns and six automatics the mississippi will be feet in length on the water line and the length over all will be with a beam of 77 feet the speed requirement is 17 knots the ship will be equipped with expansion twin screws of indicated horsepower fitted with eight babcock and allcox water tube boilers set in watertight water tight compartments except for the windlass and steerage gear practically all the other machinery will be run by electricity wireless telegraph apparatus will be installed and in fact mississippi will be equipped so as to equal in every way the high standard 0 requirement tor modern warships there will be commodious quarters provided for the crew ot aso officers and men with especial attention paid to sanitary needs only ona remedy in the world that will at once stop of the skin in any part of the body doans ointment at any drug store 50 cents t
