Mlko Gibbons of St. Paul knocked out .Sid Burns, the welterweight champion of England, Eng-land, In the fifth round of a scheduled ton-round bout at Madison Square garden last night. The knockout camo eight seconds before the bell ended tho round, and Burns was unable to face hlB opponent for tho next round. Gibbons wet3hod 150 1-4 pounds and Burns 148 3-fl Gibbons made play of his opponent from the start with loft jnbs and right uppercuts. The constant con-stant jabbing drew blood from the Englishmen's nose in the first round Gibbons knocked Bums down for the codnt of two in the third round with a right hook to the Jaw and in the next round ropeatcd for a count of nine and when ho aroso put in n loft hook to the jaw, sending his man down, completely out. At tho count of eight the bell rang. Burns' seconds worked over him desperately, but he was unable to recover in the minute's intermission. |
