Show POCATELLO GETS SIX MONTHS W. S. Straten, of Pocatello, Idaho, was handed a ISO-day sentence in police court today for assault with a deadly weapon upon the person of Frank Layne, janitor in a rooming house at 137 Twenty-fifth street. According to tho story that was told by Layne, the Pocatello man came to the rooming house Saturday night and wanted to get a room. A young man In charge showed Straten a 100m, but Straten wanted a better rcom, and, after securing a better one and paying a little stlffer price for it, he changed his mind and wanted want-ed his money back, Tho young man lefused to refund the money because Sttatcn had spent some time in tho room, and at that Straten began to swear in the presence of Mrs. Angelo Kapsegnes, who conducts the rooming room-ing house. Frank Layne and the clerk endeavored endeav-ored to get Straten to quit swearing, but ho persisted, and finaly Layne attempted to put him out of the house. At that Straten pulled a knife and stabbed Layne over tho heart. The knife went through the coat label, the vest, shirt and undershirt, piercing pierc-ing tho breast and making an ugly wound. The hotel clerk and Mr. Layne told straight stories on the witness stand today, while Straten could remember nothing that happened after he started start-ed to ask for his money back. Judge Reeder sent the prisoner to jail for six months. |
