Show FIVE ON $5 A WEEK. "Our family consists of five and I our tablo expenses average about ?5 ila week Tho universal breakfast I bacon and eggs Is not indulged in when eggs aro soaring. Corn meal cakes, graham muffins and cereals are bettor for our health. Meat once dally Is quite sufficient. I use fruits and vegetables quite plentlfuly In j their season and also put up a good , supply for winter use. Too much I coffee and tea are used In most home3. Tho children and I drink only I water, as we do not like milk, but I ' do havo plenty of cream for our ce- roals and fruit. ' Auy one who wishes to economize should watch out for the unnecessary , leakB In the household, as well as tho table exponse. The old adage, 'A stitch In time saves nine" would save many a dollar. When rugs or carpets begin be-gin to wear they can be made to last almost twice as long by being care- fully mended. The same can bo said of wearing apparel; and how many people do not mend their hose! A girl who worked by the week onco i told me that she had about 50 pnlrs I of hose that needed darning, but It j was easier to get now ones. ' "Going to places of amuscmont and 1 having a 'good time' Is Indulged in to the detriment of the American people's peo-ple's homes. When they do this there Is not nearly tho time for household house-hold cares as there should be, so Is It any wonder there Is such an Increase In the cost of living? I do not think nny ono should stay at home aud work all the lime, but am spoaklng of thoso who carry amusements to excess. ex-cess. A. R." |
